How Does an Agency Work?

Thanks so much for reading our blog! I really want to go over the basics and talk about what we do and how we do it here in Toledo. I have learned when connecting with other agencies that we all operate differently. Some agencies employ their nannies, and others are simply referral based. Some agencies are full service and will staff housekeepers and on call babysitters, where as others only assist with long term full time nannies. Our agency here in Toledo does not employ; we only make referrals. Our services are currently full time, part time, date night sitters, day time sitters, household managers, mother’s helpers, wedding event childcare, and before/after school care.


Our first steps for a full time placement are always to conduct a home evaluation. We start here to get a really good feel for your family’s needs and style. We know just the right questions to ask to figure out just what you are looking for in a household employee. Once we gather our information we post your job posting to several different sites. We will sort through all the applications and resumes that come through and weed through the ones that are a wrong fit right off the bat. Our agency has a 3 step interview process for any potential candidates. We start with an initial phone interview to make sure they fit our agency requirements and the main points of the job. We then proceed to a face to face interview with extensive questions. From there we schedule a face to face interview of scenario questions between the candidate and myself, the Agency Owner. We then conduct their reference checks, and require 3 professional references. The candidate then signs a contract with our agency allowing us access to share their profiles with families. The family typically receives 3-5 potential candidates to choose from. If a family decides to hire a candidate we offer trainings, drug and background checks, and work agreement templates. We also offer a referral to a tax and payroll company to help your family navigate the challenges of hiring a household employee.


We have been performing this vetting and screening process for 2.5 years now and have experience in finding the right fit for each family. We have learned the right questions to ask, the red flags to look for, and factor in personality as well. Your kiddos deserve the best care they can get, and your family deserves the peace of mind of knowing you are getting care you can trust!
